Energy crisis

　　Hello everybody, today I would like to begin by talking about the energy crisis. Do we need the nuclear energy? Let me start at the head, the next argument is based on global point, not the situation in Taiwan. So,do we need the nuclear energy? My answer is “of course we need…for now” . A proverb says “Of two evils choose the less”.

　　The next issue I would like to focus on the current development renewable energy ?”. Well, that is a good question. The solar energy is good, but its efficiency is too low. Its energy conversion efficiency is only 15% ( the nuclear is 42 to 57% ). The efficiency of newest solar cells is 40%, but so far it still lies in the labs. The source of wind power is not stable enough and there are not many suitable places for the tidal and geothermal power.

　　Despite the fact that there is the nuclear waste, we have the technology to store it. For example, the storage area in Nevada can store the waste over ten thousand years. The nuclear waste is dangers, that is right, but with the good policy, we can manage the situation well. Let me give another example, there are over 1.2 million people are killed by car accident, but no one say “we don’t want the car”. Why? Because we have detailed plans and rules.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that we need the nuclear for now. Nuclear can be repeal, but not few years later.
